The cooker hose does not have a quick disconnect. It will not work with popular tanks having quick disconnects. The type of connection was not described and the image of the hose on the web site does not look like the item received.

Cuisinart Electric Pressure Cooker 6-Quart , Brushed Stainless and Matte Black Model EPC-1200PC Review

Cuisinart Electric Pressure Cooker 6-Quart , Brushed Stainless and Matte Black Model EPC-1200PC
Average Reviews:

When I purchased my pressure cooker, I was quite the "novice". Like others, I had seen my grandmother use one when I was a child. . . but my mother was always very afraid of pressure cookers and warned me that I would "die" if I ever used one. Friends of my parents had one and cooked chili in it once, and it "exploded" and chili was everywhere. So I just never bothered. Then I came across this one.
A couple of things I didn't know and learned after I received the item. First, you can only fill it from 50 - 60% full, depending upon what you're making. So if you're going to use the pressure cooker then though it says that it's a 6-quart, you can really only cook 3 - 4 quarts.
But here's the really great thing that I learned, and I don't see this in the book or anything. It's not only a pressure cooker. . . It's a Stock Pot or electric pot. . . whatever you want to call it. I've made chicken stock in it, and filled it just about to the top with great results. I've made other soups, which don't need to really use the "pressure cooker" and they have turned-out great. Due to the fact that you can sear meat in it, that's wonderful. . .You can saute. . . you can simmer. . . With three different temperature settings, you can really cook lots of things inside. I made hot & sour soup today, which was fantastic! (no pressure cooking needed) I also like that it's non-stick, and you can easily remove the insert.
I've also made chili, which turned-out really well. I cooked a whole chicken, and that also was great. I purchased a pressure cooker cookbook, just to get some more ideas.
There certainly are "better" / "easier" ways to cook things other than using a pressure cooker, all depending upon the item. For example, I still prefer to use a steamer for veggies. But I think I'm going to get a lot more use out of this than I originally expected,

Reduce time spent in the kitchen preparing meals with the help of this 6-quart electric pressure cooker--it cuts cooking times up to 70-percent when compared to traditional stovetop cooking methods. The unit traps steam inside, which builds up pressure to create hotter temperatures, and its tight seal locks in heat, moisture, and flavor, as well as vitamins and minerals for exceptionally healthy, great-tasting meals like soup, chili, and other one-dish entrees. It also works well for cheesecake and custard, because dessert should never be left off the menu. The unit's push-button controls and easy-to-read digital display eliminate guesswork, while its precision digital thermostat regulates temperatures. Choose from preprogrammed settings for high- or low-pressure cooking, browning, simmering, sauteing, and warming. For safety, the cooker must be fully locked for pressure to build, and it will remain locked until the pressure inside drops to zero. Other highlights include a 99-minute timer with an LED countdown display, cool-touch side handles, and a nonstick cooking pot that cleans up easily by hand or in the dishwasher. A dishwasher-safe trivet also comes included. Housed in brushed stainless steel, the 1000-watt pressure cooker measures 12-1/5 by 12-1/5 by 13-1/5 inches and carries a three-year limited warranty.

Zojirushi CD-LCC30 Micom 3.0-Liter Electric Dispensing Pot Review

Zojirushi CD-LCC30 Micom 3.0-Liter Electric Dispensing Pot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received this for Christmas, it's something I've wanted for a while. Ever since my tea kettle died of old age, I've been boiling water for tea with a regular sauce pan and what usually happens is I forget all about it and only remember after it has been boiling for a while. Also, I didn't like the long wait for hot water. I want instant gratification! And now I have it with this Zojirushi dispensing pot. It's perfect since I'm an avid tea drinker, consuming several pots of tea each day.
A long long time ago, I used to have the "air pot" style dispensing pot where you just press on the top and it pumps out water. This one is a much newer design and dispensing is handled electronically. What I like is the "safety" feature which was lacking in the old "air pot" styles. You have to press the "unlock" button before the "dispensing" button which prevents accidentally dispensing hot water. You can set this to keep water at 205°F, 195°F, or 175°F. You can also set it to give you hot water in 7 hours, but this is a feature I really don't need to use. I'm using the 195°F which seems to be a good middle ground for making black (requires hotter water) and green (requires lower temp water) teas. This is also handy for making instant noodles, oatmeal, hot chocolate. Also handy when needing hot water for a dish I'm cooking, or making chicken/beef broth for a dish I'm cooking. This is very convenient ... no more waiting for hot water! (This beats getting a replacement tea kettle because with a tea kettle I still have to wait for it to boil/whistle, and it usually whistles shortly after I've sat down and gotten comfortable.) This pot will automatically reboil when it feels the temp has dropped too much. The water level gauge is easy to read, the lid lifts up easily for refilling (also removes easily to make pouring water out and cleaning a cinch). Another nice little detail is a removable power cord. It makes me feel a bit "safer" being able to remove this before cleaning out the pot in the sink.
I am confident that this will last me a long time. My in-laws also have a Zojirushi water dispensing pot and it has never failed on them. And I know people who have other Zojirushi products and have had no problems with them. So I feel comfortable with this brand, and I may look into getting one of their rice cookers.
Oh, I have to mention one more nicety of this dispensing pot. The base will swivel around (think lazy suzan style), making it easy to rotate it without scratching your kitchen counter top.
The only thing I need to be careful about is where to put the dispensing pot since there is a steam vent on the top. I don't put it directly beneath any kitchen cabinets, just in case the steam might damage the cabinet over time.
ADDED 11/19/05:
I just wanted to mention that I have had this for 2 years and it is still working as well as it did when I first got it. I have used this pot everyday for the past 2 years. I refill it at least once a day in the summer, 2-4 times a day in the winter. I use it mainly for making tea (big tea drinkers in this house) and cooking. It's easy to clean. No staining on the inside; of course this would depend on your local water quality. Not bad at all considering the use I get out of this. I still highly recommend this pot.
I have a baby now. I have found this dispensing pot handy for quickly warming up bottles from the fridge... instant hot water to immerse bottle in. My screaming baby doesn't have to wait long for her milk. Perfect! The pot has also been useful when mixing cereal... mix cereal with some cold water, then a splash of the hot water to bring it up to a nice warm temp for her.

I love tagine cooking. I purchased a traditonal clay one years ago. You had to soak it overnight in cold water before use. I hadn't used in in over a year and I knew I was taking a chance when I didn't bother to soak it. I even smiled as I watched the crack form and spread. At last I had an excuse to purchase this one!
Dishwasher safe! No soaking, although you do need to boil milk in it before the first use. This size feeds six. I lucked out and found a black one at Crate and Barrel Outlet.
Although I was annoyed with the upkeep of a tradtional tagine, I didn't want to switch to stainless steel or cast iron. This new glazed clay is a wonderful innovation.
This one cooks evenly. Cleans up easily and is nice enough to serve from at the table. If you are serious about the cuisine, this is the one to purchase. I'm concerned about the cast iron and stainless steel ones by other companies. Those aren't traditional materials and they conduct heat much more effeciently. The food may cook too quickly. This is as close to the original as you can get without the prep and cleanup hassles that come with it.

Emile Henry Flame Top cookware, a technological innovation. An innovation in ceramics technology, Emile Henry's new line of Burgundy Clay Flame-Top ceramics products work directly on a gas flame or an electric or halogen hob without a diffuser, without any fear of cracking or breaking.Much lighter, (30%), than many types of comparable metal cookware products, Flame-Top is microwave and dishwasher-safe, cleans up very easily, is extremely strong and durable, goes under the broiler, and can go directly from a freezer or a refrigerator to a hot oven to the table, where it will retain the cooking heat for a very long time. This recent innovation from Emile Henry is a break-through in ceramics technology. Unlike most metal cookware products, Flame-Top cookware can sit on a very hot open flame for an extended period of time without any ingredients in the cook pot, and they will not crack, discolor or break. Perfect for braising, browning and slow cooking due to the incredibly gentle heat distribution properties of Burgundy Clay, Flame-Top products cook evenly and thoroughly when used on top of the stove, in the oven or even in the microwave.Enhancing this gentle cooking action are raised dots on the underneath side of each lid that evenly distribute evaporated juices directly back into the cooking food. This self-basting technique produces a more thoroughly cooked, tender and moist dish than with traditional lids, which force liquids to run down the sides of the pot, and which contribute to uneven cooking. Emile Henry Flame-Top ceramic cookware is light and versatile, and better brings out the flavors of all cooked foods.

Graniteware 3-Piece 19-Quart Clam and Lobster Steamer with Faucet Set Review

Graniteware 3-Piece 19-Quart Clam and Lobster Steamer with Faucet Set

This may be a great pot when it's in good shape, but your chances of getting an undented one are close to zero. the first pot I got had a dented lid, and it was clearly damaged in transit. The box they shipped it in was very thin, and they did not double-box it. The replacement (which arrived very quickly - thank you Amazon) WAS double-boxed, and the inner box was not damaged at all (the outer was a mess, though)but when I opened it, I saw a huge dent, so severe that quite a bit of enamel was chipped off both inside and outside of the bottom pot. (see photo)So even though I still want this pot and Amazon's price is good, I'll pay more and buy it locally, where I can at least see what I'm getting. Going back and forth to UPS is a very annoying waste of time. Too bad both Granite Ware and Amazon don't understand that this product is delicate and must be handled carefully.

The large capacity pot is designed to accommodate large gatherings and produce outstanding results. The faucet helps drain off steamy liquids without getting burned. Porcelain enamel is the result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a durable vitreous coating on a carbon steel core. It creates a smooth, hard finish that won\'t burn and resists staining. It\'s also non -porous so it won\'t trap odors or food particles and provides a low coefficient of friction – meaning that it cleans up easily and, it is corrosion and chemically resistant so it will last a long time. When fired, the vessel is placed on pins so the bottom and sides are hardened during the firing process into one smooth laminated glass surface. You may notice slight pin indentations where the glass has flowed around the pin that supports the base during firing. The pin marks do not compromise the finish or performance of the vessel in any way but you should take additional care in handling if using on glass top stove.19 quart capacity

Oxo Good Grips Pop-Up Steamer Review

Oxo Good Grips Pop-Up Steamer
Average Reviews:

As far as expandable steamers go, this one is the best, as far as I'm concerned. The 3 folding legs are rounded, so you can use this steamer in a non-stick coated pot, without worrying about scratching it. The center post handle screws off, if it gets in the way when steaming certain foods, like fish. I also like how you can put a fork through the top portion of the handle (as the instructions suggest), in order to lift it out of a pot, without burning any fingers in the process. Although it's a little bit more work cleaning it, as opposed to a silicone steamer (that doesn't expand), I usually use it for vegetables, and use a silicone steamer for fish (easier to clean). If you're really into steaming your foods, get this one and a silicone.

The highly functional pop-up steamer offers a variety of features that make it easy to cook a variety of foods. A simple press on the handle pops the steamer up for added length, making it easy and safe to insert and remove. Freshly steamed vegetables are a snap. Press the handle again to lock it down for compact storage. For extra reach, a fork can be inserted into the handle. Folding feet make it easy to store the steamer and easy to elevate it by 1-3/4 inches, leaving room enough underneath for water. Simply unscrew the handle when the entire basket is needed for steaming larger items like fish fillets. The steamer is made to fit pots 8 inches in diameter and up.

Zojirushi NS-DAC10 Zutto Neuro-Fuzzy 5-1/2-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer
Average Reviews:

I think this is a perfectly fine rice cooker, perhaps a bit over-priced, but it IS one of the famous "Made in Japan" rice cookers for which Zojirushi is justly famous.
It differs in one main respect from the excellent ZUTTO NP-DA10 model sold in Japan: that one (which has served me brilliantly for 2 years now) uses the Induction Heating cooking method, which this North American version does not have. I think IH would have justified the price of this; without it, well...
Perfectly fine rice, good design and functionality. And I don't agree with the comments about ZUTTO "bombing out" in Japan or cheap or flimsy plastic. The reviews on Amazon.jp (which you can check) are universally positive. See one in person at your local shop before you decide.

The very essence of form and function, Zojirushi designed their Zutto line with simplicity in mind, which means organic shapes, and that only the basic functions necessary for operating each appliance were included. With a 5-1/2-cup capacity, this rice cooker and warmer features control buttons that are designated with symbolic icons instead of labels, so they can be universally understood. The unit's spherical inner cooking pan and heating system enables heat to distribute evenly for exceptional results, and its advanced Neuro Fuzzy logic technology allows the rice cooker to make fine adjustments to the temperature and heating time in order to cook perfect rice every time. Menu settings include options for cooking white/sushi rice, porridge, and mixed rice, while the unit's automatic keep-warm function keeps cooked rice hot until it's ready to be served. Other features include an LCD display, a clock and timer function, a detachable inner lid, and a built-in retractable cord. The 680-watt rice cooker measures 13 by 9-7/8 by 7-7/8 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

This is really the only option I know of that allow you to cook rice easily and safely, no nonstick BS. I have had this about 6 months and use it alot. Brown Rice comes out very well, def have to wash it 4 times at least, best to soak for awhile, sometimes I will let it soak from morn until eve, then cook it, let it stay on warm cycle. I also add a pinch of salt and olive oil. This can be used to make stews/soups.

Classic Crock-pot the Original Slow Cooker 5 Qt. SCR509B-A Black Review

Classic Crock-pot the Original Slow Cooker 5 Qt. SCR509B-A Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is almost exactly like the silver one on here that has some bad reviews, so I will keep this brief. I have this slow cooker and also a Hamilton Beach. I use both a lot and they are a few years old, so they don't have the locking lids to carry them or anything too fancy beyond the warm, low, high settings.
Mine has a glass lid, and it does sputter sometimes while cooking and also sometimes gets the counter a little wet, but very minimally. I have noticed that this gets hotter than my other one, so if I am home and want things done in 4-6 hours instead of being gone 8-10 hours, I use this one. Even on low, this gets things done quicker. I have never had things burn while I'm gone, but I always have it on low for overnight or for when we're gone all day.
I also have this round one and an oval. I do prefer the round one, and this size is great for feeding a large family or group. I make 6 pound roasts in it often for BBQ sandwiches or pork taco meat or just meat/carrots/potatoes/onions, and they all come out great.
For the price I think it is fine. I would not pay $10-15 shipping, but it will serve you well for an affordable slow cooker if you can buy it locally.

Rival 38601 Oval 6-Quart Smart-Pot Crock-Pot Review

Rival 38601 Oval 6-Quart Smart-Pot Crock-Pot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this unit (#38601-W) as a replacement for an older slow cooker (Nesco 6qt. Roaster Oven), and based on the reviews of others decided to take a "scientific" approach to reviewing this product. Also, I wanted to make sure it would work without burning my house down! :)
For starters, I wanted to make everyone aware that there have been some recalls issued recently (10/04) for Rival Crock Pots. According to several websites, "The recall involves models 3040, 3735, 5025, 5070, and 5445, made before May 2002." If you own one of these, please contact Rival for information regarding return/replacement of defective components.
Now, on with the review!
Condition: No obvious signs of defects, chips, or cracks when box was opened and product removed. Inspected lid and crock again while washing, and there were no blemishes noted. Base had no dings or scratches, and there were no "rattles" when the unit was moved around/turned over.
Fit/Finish: Cooking base is light but solid. Handles well attached (unlike my Nesco, on which the handles are "pop-riveted" and one has a rivet that has pulled out of the base, resulting in a handle that twists) and are mounted snugly to the base unit. The crock was heavier than I had expected (used to the Nesco which has an aluminum non-stick "crock"), however it appears to be quite durable. The lid fits the crock well, however there is some "play" when the lid is sitting on the unit - this may be due to the crock being slightly "out of round" (or as in this case, "out of oval") when produced, or it could be the manufacturer's way of allowing the unit to vent (my Nesco has 2 holes in the lid to allow steam to escape {aluminum lid}). Control panel is straight-forward and easy to use - one button to select desired time/temperature, and one button to turn the unit off (a nice feature!). Very good overall fit/finish.
Temperature: I wanted to specifically look at this, as quite a few reviewers had problems with the unit cooking too fast and/or burning food. On reading reviews of this and similar products here at Amazon and other websites, the general consensus is that because this is a large unit, it needs to be at least 1/2 full (3 quarts of food and/or liquid) to cook properly. Less than that can (and from what I have read, usually does) result in the food cooking too fast or burning. Filling more than 3/4 full can result in "overflow" (remember - heat causes most things to expand (i.e. meat, vegetables) pushing liquids out of the way).
Several people also noted that the base unit gets quite hot - this is very typical of "wrap around" heat units, and I cannot stress enough to be sure the unit and cord are out of the reach of children/pets both while in use and until the unit cools down.
I took a "scientific approach" to this potential problem, and this is what I found:
- Filled crock with 3 quarts of cool water (70 degrees).
- Set time/temp to 8 hrs., LOW
At 30 min., water temp was 96 degrees.
*After about 15 minutes, I did notice an "odor" due to the heating element being used for the first time. This is completely normal (based on past experience and confirmed in the owner's manual) and should no longer occur after a couple of uses. The odor lasted about 5 minutes, then disapated.
At 60 min., water temp was 128 degrees.
At 90 min., water temp was 146 degrees.
According to information I found on several websites (did a Google search), LOW on a crock pot/slow cooker should be around 200 degrees and HIGH should be around 300 degrees. Based on the results I achieved with my crock pot, I believe the unit I have is OK and should work fine (your mileage may vary). If you have just purchased one of these, this is a good way to test it before risking food in it.
Some reviewers also complained about not being able to access the "warm" setting without allowing the unit to complete a cooking cycle. While I cannot confirm this, I believe that Rival has corrected this problem as my unit does allow me to access the "warm" setting by using the time/temp button (pushing it 5 times).
One very nice feature of this crock pot, that in my opinion makes it more desireable than those of some other manufacturers, is that it has an "off" button. My older unit, while it has more heat settings (being a roaster oven) does not have an "off" position, which means that the heating element is turned on as soon as it's plugged in.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with my new "toy"! I haven't cooked in it yet, but I'm sure based on my test that it will do just fine. I will update my review should I find otherwise.
UPDATE - 10/13!
I have now cooked in my new crock pot, and firmly stand behind my 4 star rating!
I cooked a 4-1/2 lb. roast with vegetables. After being on LOW for 10 hrs. and WARM on about 2 hrs., the roast checked in at 160 degrees. I have to admit that I was a little dubious at first, as the exterior of the roast appeared darker than what I would have liked. However, it was so tender I almost didn't need a knife to slice it! And the taste was AWESOME!!! The vegetables were delicious, and the juices in the bottom of the crock were out of this world!!
Because the size of this crock, and the fact that it needs to be at least 1/2 full to cook properly, I would recommend this model for anyone who is feeding at least 3 - 4 people on a regular basis or for those who enjoy leftovers. If this doesn't describe you, then you may want to consider a smaller size.
Overall, I am VERY pleased with this crock pot!!

Deni Oval Electric Pressure Cooker Review

Deni Oval Electric Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

Our first Deni went dead after one use. Deni customer service (Keystone Manufacturing) was outstanding though. Since it was a large heavy item, all they required was for the power cord to be cut off and mailed back to them, at which point they sent out a brand new pressure cooker. Unfortunately, the 2nd one arrived with the plastic base pretty much shattered, although there was no damage evident on the box. No problem! Customer service sent another replacement out immediately with no questions. Unfortunately (again), the new unit died after only 2 or 3 uses (at least it lasted longer than the 1st one!). So while their customer service seems great, this particular pressure cooker seems to die pretty easily (at least at higher altitude of the Rocky Mountain region). The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is due to the customer service.

Cut cooking times up to 70-percent compared to conventional cooking methods with this 8-1/2-quart electric pressure cooker. It combines steam, heat, and pressure--while retaining all the nutrients and flavor of food--for delicious home-cooked meals like pot roast, chili, vegetable stew, chicken and rice, and more. The pressure cooker provides a removable nonstick aluminum inner cooking pot for even heat distribution, and its push-button digital control panel makes it easy to select from a variety of cooking functions. Choose the warm function to reheat or keep cooked food warm, the brown function to brown food before cooking it under pressure, the steam function to boil liquid for steaming food or cooking rice, or the slow-cook function with a 9-1/2-hour programmable timer for slowly cooking food--great for having dinner ready and waiting after a long day at the office.
The appliance also offers cooking-mode indicator lights, a delay-time feature for cooking food up to eight hours later, a built-in thermostat for automatic temperature control, and three pressure settings: high (15 psi), medium (7.5 psi), and low (2.5 psi). To help ensure safe operation, the unit supplies a pressure-regulator knob, an internal pressure-release system, a locking pin to prevent the lid from being opened while under pressure, and an automatic shut-off valve that activates before pressure exceeds its maximum capacity. Other highlights include a steam-release valve for fast release of pressure, a sliding lock-and-unlock safety cover latch, and plastic side handles with finger guards for convenient transport. A user manual with recipes comes included. Housed in cool-touch brushed stainless steel, the multi-function pressure cooker measures 16 by 12-1/2 by 14-3/4 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Fagor 4-Piece 8-Quart Multipot Review

The box it comes in says "compatible with induction cooking." The bottom of the pot says it will work on induction cooktops.
But it WILL NOT.
If you take a magnet to the bottom of the pot (the way one checks if cookware is induction-compatible) it DOES NOT STICK to the bottom of the multipot.
Thus, this pot is useless for induction owners.

Not only can you use this pot for conveniently cooking and draining pasta of all shapes and sizes, you can also use it to cook asparagus, corn on the cob, crustaceans of various species, veggies and so on. The aluminum within the base makes heating fast and even, while the glass lid allows you to monitor the cooking process without disrupting it. Bayou Classic SP50 Tall High-Pressure Outdoor Gas Cooker Review

Cooking on a gas grill should be simple, and this is about as easy as it gets when you need to do your cooking in a great big pot. The instructions were barely necessary (but they are) and setting it up took all of 60 seconds. It had no trouble holding and heating a commercial-sized 62-quart stainless steel pot full of Chesapeake Bay crabs, and later in the week the deep frying of a whole turkey. It was also easy to detatch and store. It is relatively light weight (a pleasant surprise) but quite sturdy, it has plenty of grill and burner area to keep a loaded pot steady and hot, and is just what I need for entertaining big gatherings at our weekend home.

I have not used this cooker with a fish cooker sized-pot yet. It performs well in heating a 1.5 quart cast iron french fry cooker and for wok seasoning and wok cooking; having cooked fries, seasoned one wok, used for Asian meals numerous times. Obvious cons are the inefficiency when cooking in small pots (lowering heat causes loss of efficient blue flame and inefficient yellow flame existence), and the venturi produces a constant jet-like sound louder than an idle V8 engine. I have not yet installed a fuel monitoring device on the supply line to estimate the operating cost. Stainless steel hose is wonderful, ignore the finish burned off during operation, ignore the jet-sound, and enjoy cooking. 170,000+ BTU's rocks for Asian cooking. Faster than you can say stir-fry, you can....
