The rugged cast-iron doufeu from Le Creuset has a surprise: the top of its lid is recessed in order to hold ice cubes. As a roast beef or chicken bakes inside the doufeu, hot steam hits the cold lid and condensation forms. Textured with dimples, the underside of the lid drips the moisture back into the pot for basting, resulting in rich, flavorful juices and very tender meat. You may need to replenish the ice cubes as baking progresses. (More customer reviews)For most Americans who are not familiar with table top cooking (at the dinner table), Asians usually will make sukiyaki, shabu shabu, hotpot, grilled Korean beef ribs, etc etc on the dinner table. Especially during the winter. Great at potlucks, or any gathering. It's really fun and takes the stress off of the hostess on "what to cook", because you just need to prep meat, veggies to cook, and dipping sauces.
The induction plate will work with only stainless steel, cast iron, or any other pots and pans that's specifially designed for induction.
The best thing is, it is ONLY hot inside the "circle", while the outer edges are cold to touch, so no burning fingers! Plus, the controls make it very easy to change the temperature. It is electrical, so you don't have to worry about burning alcohol, or butane or such at the table. MUCH more safe.
My family can't live without one. I probably cook with it just about every day in winter.
Two important notes: do NOT put a hot pan on a cold induction plate (or vice versa). It damages the coils, and the ceramic.
Hot pan goes on a hot plate; cold pan goes on a cold plate. Once you are done with the cooking, turn it off the heat. Let it cool down, and then you can wipe the surface with a lightly damp towel . I've cleaned mine with a paper towel lightly misted with 409. Just make sure you don't let anything drips down into the vents (where it can come into contact with the inside).
Also, there are vents in the induction plate, and MAKE SURE there are no liquids dripping over it. (It will be like pouring water onto a frayed electrical cord -- bam, plate dies instantly). At that point, it's dead.

The pot was a sturdy aluminum, not like the flimsy pots of some other brands. I'm going to get a bunch of crawfish this weekend and use the basket to boil them.

Koolatron TCXU-24 Total Chef Automatic Coffee and Wine Urn 24-Cup Capacity, Silver Review

(More customer reviews)I have owned two (2) of these 24-cup coffee urn products, over the past 3+ years. The first one began leaking at about the end of the first year, so we liked the product enough to locate and purchase our second unit. The second urn worked well for about ten (10) months, but, this past week the device that controls the flow of liquid from the urn broke. Although we can still make our coffee, we must now LADDLE IT OUT OF THE URN. Not the best way to start one's day, I'm very sure.
I've had the device completely disassembled and attempted to repair the faulty item (it is a clear plastic unit, rather barrel-shaped, with a slot that allows the fliud to be discharged when the barrel is turned to the opening. The shaft that connects to the lever on the outside of the urn has snapped off and will not accept any of the glueing products that I've tried, attempting to repair it (even tried to re-enforce the device, inside, to no avail).
Since this is my second urn, and the problem is NOT A REPEAT OF THE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST URN, I feel the consumer should be aware that the life expectancy of these products seems to be far less than the average consumer might expect, for an in-home electronic appliance, and incredibly short for any possible commercial use.
When working, the product was more than satisfactory, but, the unexpectedly short projected life of the product should be noted on the product, and/or these faults should be reflected in the pricing of the unit(s). If I could have found a parts supplier, I might not be so negative about the product either, but, having to purchase a new unit EVERY YEAR seems totally unfair to the consumer likely to purchase this product.

Do not wash the grate, it'll lose all its flavors, just give it a good scrub with a brush, grease it down with pork/chicken/beef fat before grilling. You'll never cook steaks on anything else.

I ordered this hotplate due to some good reviews in another website.
This product had a deep scratch on the cooking surface. The glass cut the person opening it. I returned it for replacement. Provantage is very fast and I got the replacement quickly. Unfortunately the replacement also has a deep scratch on the glass surface. There is nothing wrong with the box and plastic bag. This indicates that the product was damaged before being packaged. The packer must be blind. I'm going to stay away from Avanti products.

(More customer reviews)I would have given it 5 stars if it was even a little bit less expensive: the price is bound to keep some people from wanting to try it.
Also, if you have a lot of non-ferrous, glass, etc. cookware, read this before buying an induction cooktop!
1. You won't be able to use non-ferrous (non-magnetic) pots and pans. Check your cookware with a magnet before purchasing an induction plate. If they're not magnetic at all, they probably won't work. We use enamel-coated cast iron pots, and they work really well.
2. Cooks much more efficiently than gas or electric (heats up faster, and doesn't shed excess heat in the area not in contact with the pot).
3. Your cooking area doesn't get hot, only the pot and the food do. If you have to cook in the summer, you'll appreciate not having to crank up the A/C.
It has some really great safely features, too: if the pot isn't compatible, or if you remove it, the cooktop starts to beep. If you don't put the pot back (or transfer it to one that works on induction stoves), it turns itself off. It has a sealed top and sealed controls so spills or splatters can't get into the element or the console.
I thought about getting one of these for about 7 months before making the purchase, and now I'm really glad that I did.

Wonderfully steamed vegetables, no funky tastes, YET! I have yet to be able to remove the steamer without the contents spilling back into the pot, or on the counter. After numerous tries.
When I try to remove the steamer using the two loops, it creates a roll effect that wedges itself into any pot I own, and eventually while tugging, one end slips out, and the contents roll out the other end.
I guess I have to use a stock pot to be able to steam a few sprigs of broccoli. Color me confused...

I used it for canning and had a giant pressure cooker sitting on it. It performed perfectly and because it is so well made I expect that it will last me for years. Due to the fact the top area around the burner is metal you do not have to worry about a large pot extending out over the side of the burner and melting any plastic like other models on the internet. Well worth the price.

Nesco sends this item out in need of being pre-used before cooking in for the first time.
Had my son not used it the week before to make sausage and meatballs Christmas dinner would have been ruined!! AND my house would have reeked of burnt plastic!!! The initial odor was quite bad .
The oven took over 7 hrs. plugged in outside to burn off this odor. I have had toaster ovens, coffepots toasters, electric fry pans etc. and pulled them out of the box washed and used them instantly! Nesco would do well to burn the oven off on their own site. I called customer service and let "poor nice Hazel" have it....hopefully she will pass along my suggestion and get a promotion to boot!
Also, I have no garage and had it been a rainy day I would not have had a ventilated covered area to burn it off in. I do see another review where this was an issue for the man who bought it... if you read this I agree but I wish you had kept the oven its all up hill after burn off! YES it is true, they do state in the directions to run oven before using for the first time BUT this is inside the box. This could be a real deal breaker for someone who didn't open it up at least a day before they needed it!
Bottom line it is a fantastic product. Easy clean up & versatile can be used to cook & keep food warm, use indooror or on hot days why not cook outdoors , good looking , roomy, like having an extra oven only when you need it, and it even stores neatly within itself. Yes I can say it does what I need quite well!

Our popper came with one packet of "theater popcorn" with corn, oil and seasoning so we used that and got very crisp popcorn. Next time we used our own popcorn and regular cooking oil. The popcorn was more "rubbery" as another reviewer stated. Because we had such great luck the first time around, I knew it probably wasn't the lack of vents causing this.
I tried coconut oil in place of cooking oil (it's tasteless and odorless if you've never used it before) and we had great popcorn - without a single "old maid!"
We love how fast this is and how easy the popper is to clean up afterward. Great addition to our camping gear!

The separation of kettle and corded base allows the former to be taken to the sink (or refrigerator if you're boiling pitcher-filtered water) without bother. It makes pouring at the table or in another room easy, as well. The cord can be wound inside the base so that only the needed length is exposed - neatening your countertop. The base has a "360-degree rotational connection," which means that you don't have to align the kettle in any particular way when replacing it. No buttons to press, no connector to snap.
The handle and kettle shell stay cool, obviating the need for a hot pad when picking it up, and the single control is as simple as can be: press it to start and it turns itself off when the water boils. If you forget about it, you needn't worry about boiling away all the water and leaving yourself with a burnt pot. (It will also turn off automatically if the pot is empty, the lid is opened, or the pot is removed from the base!)
The anti-calcification filter reduces scaling and thus the need to run a vinegar solution to clean out the buildup (something most people never do with their stove-based kettles). The design allows you to easily see the entire inside of the kettle, so you can keep an eye on things.
For those who regular drink tea or other beverages made with stove-boiled water, an electric kettle is a real convenience. This Braun kettle is about as convenient as they come.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this a few months ago. Within using it about 3-4 times, all 3 warming trays got holes which made the product useless. I contacted the manufacture and it took weeks and weeks of emails and voicemails before someone finally replied to my complaints of a defective product and sent me 3 replacement warming trays. All 3 replacement trays now have holes after 3 uses. Dont buy this product unless you want to only use it a few times and then wait weeks and weeks to get new trays. Waste of money. They should recall the item and offer full refunds.

The unit's three, individual, chafing dishes hold 1 quart each and include matching glass lids designed with steam vents and knobs on top for easy lifting. Each pan fits into the heating wells at level position, and the glass lids fit without gaping. The countertop appliance makes it simple to prepare vegetables, soup, chili, sauces, and more. Choose from ready-made or uncooked food --separate controls operating each pan make it easy to keep food at a constant warming temperature or cook to a desired texture and taste. All the cooks out there responsible for the Thanksgiving feast know the cook is usually eating cold food. After letting all your guests serve themselves, making sure everyone has everything, & then getting your food, it's cold. I HATE COLD GRAVY. So after years of cold gravy, asparagus, and sweet potato pudding, I bought this warmer!! That Thanksgiving I gave thanks for family, my many blessings and for my HOT GRAVY!! This item is so great, you can dial temps. from low to high. Food stays warm for as long as need be. And being able to put food in the warming trays way ahead of the actual meal allows you to sit down to dinner without being harried and rushed.....you don't have to worry that the food is on the table getting cold. My warmer stays out year round.
This item is great for entertaining, holidays, parties, or just busy families with kids that have extra curricular activities & come home to supper at different times.
I have dozens of Wolfgang Puck items-everything-from his cookware to his cutlery & although I like them all, this is my FAVORITE.
