Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 7-1/4-Quart Oval Doufeu Oven, Cherry Review

Best Dutch Oven. Meat could not be more tender. Pot Roast done 3 1/2 hours at 350 degrees is more tender than one done in slow cooker for 8-10 hours (I actually did this side-by-side test.)

The rugged cast-iron doufeu from Le Creuset has a surprise: the top of its lid is recessed in order to hold ice cubes. As a roast beef or chicken bakes inside the doufeu, hot steam hits the cold lid and condensation forms. Textured with dimples, the underside of the lid drips the moisture back into the pot for basting, resulting in rich, flavorful juices and very tender meat. You may need to replenish the ice cubes as baking progresses. The enameled doufeu is durable enough to use on any stovetop burner or in the oven, and is handsome enough to serve directly at the table.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9-Quart Round French Ovens Review

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9-Quart Round French Ovens

Three years ago, I ordered one of these beauties because I noticed that each and every host on the Food Network, from Martha to Mario was using this pot. I didn't know Le Creuset from Adam, and I thought the height of culinary sophistication was my eight quart Calphalon anodized aluminum Dutch oven. I even went so far in thinking that the TV guys were using this pot because it was white on the inside, so it was easy for the camera to see what was going on.
Boy, was I wrong. Ever since I got this pup, I have used it for every soup, every braise, every stew, and every pot roast I have made since. At about the same time I got an oval shaped pot and a similar sized pot shaped primarily for making soups. All three are about the same size and weight. I never use the other two except when I have something which is a lot longer than it is wide.
The heat management is flawless, it is easy to clean, and it is tolerant of too much heat.
As other reviewers have noted, it is a bit heavy, so if you commonly have problems with heavy cookware, consider a smaller one or my retired aluminum pot.
Very highly recommended for both gas and electricity.

Designed to accommodate full roasts and whole fowl, this large 9-quart round French oven comes in handy when cooking for a crowd or preparing recipes that call for oversized ingredients. The heavy cast-iron cookware provides a colorful, long-lasting exterior enamel that resists chipping and cracking, plus a durable, nonreactive sand-colored interior enamel that offers a smooth surface for cooking and an optimal palette for food presentation. As cast iron is unexcelled for even heat distribution and superior heat retention, and enamel is impervious to acids and odors, the oven browns and cooks food uniformly and gently without hot spots and can be used for marinating, cooking on the stovetop, or finishing in the oven. Two loop cast-iron side handles help ensure a steady grip during transport--even when wearing bulky oven mitts, and the unit's secure-fitting lid locks in heat and moisture while cooking. The lid also comes fitted with a black phenolic knob that's oven-safe up to 350 degrees F. Beautiful enough for the table yet durable enough to outlive its lifetime limited warranty, the French oven can be safely used on any stovetop, including induction, and should be hand washed for best results.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 9-1/2-Quart Oval French Ovens Review

I love this it is indispensable for entertaining. I make huge batches of stew in this and freeze them in portions. It heats wonderfully. Like any of their stuff it takes a long while for it to heat up but when it does it keeps its heat.
Word of warning don't use metal spoons or it will scrape the bottom. The cleaner that you can buy for it is a must and it brings it up beautifully.
Also it is very heavy especially when full and it does require a bit of strength to move it from oven etc.
this size is great if you entertain a lot or make batches of things. I use this size the most and I have a few of different sizes.
I didn't pay this price, though its not a bad one, I go to an outlet store to the le creuset store, get one slightly imperfect then wait for a sale.

Mario Batali 4-Quart Essential Pot, Chianti Review

Mario Batali 4-Quart Essential Pot, Chianti
Average Reviews:

I checked the DHL tracking info while the pot was en route - this 4 qt. cast iron pot ships at 17 lbs. (thank God for free shipping)! I suspected that couldn't be right, but sure enough, this is one heavy hunk of enamel-covered iron, partner. Its lid seems to weigh as much as the pot it sits on. I simply can't imagine Mario Batali's diminutive Italian grandma (well...more diminutive than he at least) hoisting this thing off the stove to put into a high cupboard. Or a low one at that. Imagine that there are bigger sized editions in this line to boot!
Mere heft aside, this is a beautifully-made pot with heirloom substance and I agree that it is the equal of any Le Creuset piece I own or have ever checked out. No wonder Chris Kimball and the staff of Cook's rated this the best buy dutch oven. It's worth what they're asking.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron 5 Quart Oval French Ovens Review

We were reluctant to spend the money on this french oven but it was worth every penny. It heats up evenly and browns meat beautifully. We use this 5qt. french oven to make great one pot meals (4 servings). Just last night we made braised short ribs that were mouthwatering. We often use this pan on the stove for browning or searing and then transfer the dish to the oven for further cooking. Other times we use it for slow cooking on the stove. Clean up with the pan is super easy. Everything just wipes right out. The pan is really heavy but that's what makes it cook so well. My wife used to hate to cook (I used to be the only cooking enthusiast in the family) but she loves this french oven because all her recipes come out tasting so good.
