(More customer reviews)I was worried about ordering online and not being able to see the product in person. I was so surprised that it was so much better than I expected. I used it for canning and had a giant pressure cooker sitting on it. It performed perfectly and because it is so well made I expect that it will last me for years. Due to the fact the top area around the burner is metal you do not have to worry about a large pot extending out over the side of the burner and melting any plastic like other models on the internet. Well worth the price.

(More customer reviews)I love this single burner range...I serially bought one of several different models (of single burner ranges) locally, tested them, and returned them all. I was disgusted. Then I got this one. It was considerably more expensive, but its rock-solid and has been in use about 18 hours a day, 24 in some cases, for several months.
Its a great size for pans and regular pots, but a bit too large for the smaller pots, like 1-1.5 qt (or even a 2.5 qt, if the latter's got a windsor bottom).
It warms up very quickly, and cools off more gently. If you're used to cooking with gas, this will be a shock because it's cast iron and holds the heat. If you're experienced in cooking with cast iron (pots, pans, ranges :), you'll find it utterly predictable, or at least I do. Sometimes you just have to remove the pan for a few seconds and turn OFF (not down) the heat.
I consider it easy to clean. I've never done more than blow a few crumbs off on the cast iron burner, but I imagine it IS a sponge eater if you scrub it with one (as noted by another reviewer). The burner has a rough surface, but that's all good in my book. It keeps pots and pans from too easily or inadvertantly sliding off the range - prevents potential disaster! The part of the range that I'm really concerned about keeping clean is what all surrounds the burner. That part is all brushed steel, with no seams or holes or "gingerbread", very sturdy, very professional, and a real breeze to keep clean.
Did I mention that I totally love this range, despite the hefty price? It was designed for working cooks, imho. If I ever need yet another burner, I won't bat an eyelash at getting this same model, or at recommending it to a friend.Apr '09 ----- >2 years after original review

(More customer reviews)Before we report on how this thing cooks, we need to mention all of this first...
We had to go through THREE of these cookers before we were able to piece together a fully working product! That is a pretty sad statement regarding Eastman Outdoor's manufacturing standards and quality control!
The first unit was a very bad repack that had obviously been opened and returned although the product box was taped before we opened it. The regulator and hose was not in the plastic bag and instead was loose in the box with the bag it is supposed to be housed in wadded up in a tight little ball in the bottom corner of the box. The owners manual was creased, wrikled and oil stained. In addition to all this, the bottom of the burner base had a big dent in it, so we returned it for a replacement. Not sure if this repack sold as new was Eastman's fault or Amazon's but I would be more likely to blame Eastman since I have never gotten such an obvious repack from Amazon before this incident.
The second unit arrived in a more factory fresh state, but one of the spot welded leg brackets on the burner base was badly misaligned to the burner body instead of being straight like the other two. The unit still stood up straight with the legs attached even with this shoddy workmanship so we decided to finish setting it up and try cooking on it.
We used this with a 16" Hand Hammered Carbon Steel Wok along with a 12" Wok of the same type and were BLOWN AWAY by how impressive this thing can cook! More than enough heat and then some! We only needed to turn the burner about half way up to get the Wok "screaming hot" and were able to produce a restuarant caliber stir fry with that distinctive "Wok Hei" flavor that only a burner like this thing has can produce! After a few days of use, while trying to collapse the legs, the brass button you push in to release the telescoping leg depressed through the hole and got stuck inside the leg preventing it from collapsing down for storage. We messed with the leg for over an hour trying to get the brass push button back out into the hole it is supposed to live in, but to no avail.
We processed another defective return and received a third unit which arrived today. This one, although all the spot welded leg brackets were straight was found to have a wobbly burner element even with all the mouting screws tight to the burner base. The sheet metal burner base that the cast iron burner element attaches to appeared to be much thinner than our first and second unit and could not support the burner element properly. It made a loud "CLINK-Clunk" when you put pressure on the neck of the element and can wobble it up and down. Also, two of the three legs refused to extend no matter how hard we tugged on them. One of the legs worked normally so we decided to just take this one functioning leg and use it to replace the defective one from unit #2, which at this point appeared to be the most solid of the three minus the defective leg.
So... In the end, we decided to keep Unit #2 and sent its one defective leg back with the more significantly defective Unit #3.
We now have a functioning product that for the most part all works, but MAN! Who the heck is doing the QC work over at Eastman Outdoors????
While this thing is truly AWESOME when it comes to cooking on its impressive 65,000 BTU burner (More like cooking on a rocket engine), we can only give this product three stars due to the shoddy workmanship and non-existent quality control we found in all three units we received.
I wouldn't buy one of these if Amazon has less than 5 in stock, since you are most likely going to have to go through several of them before you get one that doesn't have a major defect with at least one component in the product package.

(More customer reviews)This is an excellent pot for crawfish or other seafood boils! The aluminum is thick and sturdy, and the handles are heavy duty. I am not worried at all about it handling a full load of water and seafood! I'm trying it out in a few weeks when it gets warmer, but I can tell already that it will get the job done (I've done quite a few crawfish boils before and have seen inferior pots).
I would prefer it if the boil basket were slightly higher, but you don't really want to overfill the pot anyway, so it's a good precaution.
In terms of what it will hold, it should cook up to 60 lbs of seafood, along with corn, potatoes, and sausage, in one batch!

The burner is well made, quite heavy metal, and worked fabulously. The starter kicked in the flame each time, although I did have a long lighter handy in case. I used this burner to prepare paella on my new 15" paella pan. I loved it. Heavy duty, worked well for me, was easy to light and control the flame... I am glad I took a chance on this one!

Had this for a month; free-shipped, it arrived intact and within a very reasonable time. Manual is brief and to the point.
Works fabulously with simple time-proven cast iron cookware, but don't expect omelets to come off whole easily - might do with enameled cast iron which I do not have. It is great to have minimal heat dumped into the house when you are paying for your air conditioning and it is 90°+ outside. That it worked just fine with some of my older - cheaper stainless steel pots that didn't pass the magnet test was a pleasant surprise. I plan to move it to the back porch before I try my heavy-flavored grill-pan fried fish!
Took away the 5th star since (a) heat is so localized over the center that it charred stir-fry veggies and burnt the thin-gauge pan when I got a bit over zealous with the power settings and (b) the temperature preset increments are too far apart for my liking. It shouldn't be a big deal to have more numbers of and more uniformly spaced steps since the controls are all electronic. I would use cast iron cookware exclusively unless heating a liquid, -the thickness helps distribute heat more quickly and evenly- but you will want to be extra careful of the delicate-looking ceramic cooktop surface.
All in all, a great inexpensive tool to learn induction cooking and what to look for before you plonk your money down for that big-bucks 4 or 5 element full size induction cooktop kitchen upgrade. I am happy with the purchase.

(More customer reviews)This double burner cooker is functional enough and good value. I use it for homebrewing. The burners produce a strong flame due to high pressure propane. The build of the unit could have been sturdier-It is a bit delicate.
My other double burner is a Camp Chef which costs almost twice as much, but has low pressure burners which are great for cooking. They are not as suited as the Bayou burnes for homebrewing.

(More customer reviews)Cooking on a gas grill should be simple, and this is about as easy as it gets when you need to do your cooking in a great big pot. The instructions were barely necessary (but they are) and setting it up took all of 60 seconds. It had no trouble holding and heating a commercial-sized 62-quart stainless steel pot full of Chesapeake Bay crabs, and later in the week the deep frying of a whole turkey. It was also easy to detatch and store. It is relatively light weight (a pleasant surprise) but quite sturdy, it has plenty of grill and burner area to keep a loaded pot steady and hot, and is just what I need for entertaining big gatherings at our weekend home.

(More customer reviews)I have not used this cooker with a fish cooker sized-pot yet. It performs well in heating a 1.5 quart cast iron french fry cooker and for wok seasoning and wok cooking; having cooked fries, seasoned one wok, used for Asian meals numerous times. Obvious cons are the inefficiency when cooking in small pots (lowering heat causes loss of efficient blue flame and inefficient yellow flame existence), and the venturi produces a constant jet-like sound louder than an idle V8 engine. I have not yet installed a fuel monitoring device on the supply line to estimate the operating cost. Stainless steel hose is wonderful, ignore the finish burned off during operation, ignore the jet-sound, and enjoy cooking. 170,000+ BTU's rocks for Asian cooking. Faster than you can say stir-fry, you can....

Proctor-Silex 34101 Fifth Burner Review

(More customer reviews)We got this to replace a burner bought off the shelf. It died within the first week. I have been much happier with the results for this burner as a replacement for our dead stove. In fact, it heats up faster that our stove used to. Produces good heat quickly and has worked well in almost all situations.
The only issue I have is with what seems to be an overtemp safety because it will cycle itself on and off. A pot will get hot quickly but it also seems to senses that the pot is still there and hot, and decides to take a rest or turner off the burner for 15-30 sec while things in your pot stop boiling. It seems to come back quickly to reheat again, but cooking with an even hear is lost as the burner cycles on/off.

(More customer reviews)I got this burner for home brewing beer at the recommendation of one of the homebrew forums I read regularly. The box arrived in a little bit rough shape, but everything worked great. Very easy to use, just hook up to a propane tank similar to the way you hook up a gas grill.
It generates a lot of heat! This is a mixed blessing as it gets a good boil going, but I found it a little bit difficult to control the heat (getting it to slow down enough to not over boil).
For my own use, I run it with the lowest amount of air/gas available (lowest flame), but if you are in need of serious heat or doing some serious outdoor cooking this burner does the job!
Pros: Lot of flame, easy to use, easy to setup.
Cons: Little difficult to control the heat as the lowest setting still runs a bit hot.
