Chef'n SleekStor Veggie Steam Silicone Steamer, Cherry Review

Chef'n SleekStor Veggie Steam Silicone Steamer, Cherry

Ok gang, maybe someone can help me with this one. After seeing the steamer at a friends, I ordered one as soon as I could.
Wonderfully steamed vegetables, no funky tastes, YET! I have yet to be able to remove the steamer without the contents spilling back into the pot, or on the counter. After numerous tries.
When I try to remove the steamer using the two loops, it creates a roll effect that wedges itself into any pot I own, and eventually while tugging, one end slips out, and the contents roll out the other end.
I guess I have to use a stock pot to be able to steam a few sprigs of broccoli. Color me confused...

B/R/K Germany 5 Piece Pressure Cooking System Value Set, 20 cm Review

B/R/K Germany 5 Piece Pressure Cooking System Value Set, 20 cm

This looks like a nice little pressure cooker although smaller than expected, a little less than 4 qt. max on the larger pan, as marked on the insides of the pan.
For something that gets as hot and dangerous as a pressure one would think that in the US they would include an instruction booklet in ENGLISH rather than the nice glossy one in only Spanish, or is that Italian.
If you don't speak Spanish I would recommend you keep looking as a pressure cooker can be a very hazardous thing without fully understanding it.
I think this company is not yet ready for the US market... hopefully they will get it.

What makes the B/R/K Pressure Cooking System different than other pressure cookers? The secret is the amazing, patented single-handed locking system! No other pressure cooking system has this time-saving and easy-to-use feature. The single handed locking mechanism is safe and easy to use, making it the busy cook's best friend in the kitchen. Why pressure cook? Pressure cooking cooks food much faster than by other methods, and with much less water than boiling, so dishes can be ready sooner. Less energy is required than when boiling, steaming or oven cooking. Since less water is necessary, the foods come to cooking temperature faster. Flavors and marinades penetrate deeply as pressure forces liquid into meats, making them more flavorful and tender. As less liquid is needed for cooking (only enough necessary for contant steam), vitamins and minerals are not leached (dissolved) away by water. Since steam surrounds the food, foods are not oxidized by air exposure at heat, so color is retained. The B/R/K Pressure Cooking System is innovative and efficient. What's more, these pots are not only for pressure cooking, they can also be used for steaming, frying, and fast cooking, making these pots a complete cooking system.Winning numerous awards across Europe, the B/R/K Pressure Cooking System was introduced to the US Market in 2007.Immediately the buzz began about this incredible, easy-to-use system. At the 31st annual Gourmet Housewares Show in Orlando Florida in May of 2007 a panel of editors and writers from Bon Appetit, Gourmet News, Gourmet Retailer, HFN, Kitchenware News and O magazine judged 127 product entries in 5 categories. The B/R/K pressure cooking system won the GOURMET GOLD AWARD in cookware/bakeware category. So treat yourself or someone you love to the ultimate in kitchen cookware, and give you or your loved-one the gift of time and health.

This is very nice. Only used once since I just got it. Cooked a whole frozen chicken using the Auto setting, 8 hours later just pulled out the bones, added the dumplings and wha-la, yummy. Clean up was a snap, just put it in the dishwasher.

Thunder Group Aluminum Sauce Pans Review

Thunder Group Aluminum Sauce Pans
Average Reviews:

This pot is a bargain compared to what else is out there in this size. It's of a good thickness aluminum so you can simmer the tomato sauce for hours without burning. I was concerned about the rivets attaching the handles but haven't had any problems with any leakage as I've read about with other pots. I waited to order a cover and fortunately the lid from a saute pan we have fits like a glove. The inside finish doesn't gleam like the picture shows; the scoring from the pot being spun is obvious but not significant enough to effect use or cleaning. Great value in a sauce pot. The only possible draw back is the size of the long handle; it can get in the way or lead to accidents. As for lifting, the handle is nice and secure and a second handle that's more like a drawer handle makes lifting the full pot easy and secure. Macy's eat your heart out.

King Kooker 48-Quart Stainless Steel Boiling Pot with Basket Review

King Kooker 48-Quart Stainless Steel Boiling Pot with Basket

Got this pot for boiling crawfish, but it has plenty of other uses. Just got finished blanching Silver Queen corn to put in freezer. Better to use this big pot outside than steam up the kitchen. Works like a champ. There were a few little dings from shipping, but nothing that affects performance. I know some people like aluminum, but I'll stick with stainless, especially when I cook a big pot of venison chili or brunswick stew for the neighborhood. Very happy with the purchase

Hawkins Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker Review

Hawkins Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Indian cooking becomes ridiculously easy with a pressure cooker - especially if you are planning on cooking lentils or beans. Not only do you save time, you also retain nutrients which can otherwise be destroyed when exposed to high heat for long periods of time.
Safety is virtually guaranteed with Hawkins' foolproof design - if the lid is not closed properly, the cooker just won't attain full pressure and so won't become dangerous; if there is even a little pressure remaining, the lid just won't be forced open. And if - this happened to me once - you put in too little water by mistake and the cooker boils dry, you are still okay thanks to a safety valve ingeniously placed just under the bar on the lid - so that when it opens up, the heat gets deflected away from you.
I have only used aluminum cookers, but the stainless steel ones are great too - if a little more expensive. Worth it if you want to avoid stains that can sometimes be a problem with aluminum cookers. I have three cookers in 2, 3.5 and 4.5 litre sizes. 2L is ideal if you're living alone and the 3.5 is just right for a two person family. I use the 4.5 when I cook for guests. I will still buy the 5L because it really is the most convenient size for an average family.
My only grouse with buying these cookers online is that you don't get accessories or replacement parts as easily as you can in Indian stores. After I blew out the safety valve in my 2L, I'm waiting for my next trip to India to get the lid fixed. Also, the 5L (and above) sizes become much more useful when you can use them with accessories like inserts - for multilevel cooking inside the cooker (cook two dishes in one go) and steamers - (for rice cakes etc.)
Bottom line - if you are planning on cooking Indian dishes, invest in a pressure cooker. Its versatile enough to cook pulses, vegetables and meats and will last you a lifetime!

Bayou Classic 3016 30-Quart Outdoor Turkey Fryer with Basket and Fry Pot Review

Bayou Classic 3016 30-Quart Outdoor Turkey Fryer with Basket and Fry Pot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have long been skeptical of "deep frying" at home. The smell, the mess, the smell...Anyway, I recently decided to throw a fish fry and decided it was time to invest in a fryer. The biggest issue for me in purchasing a fryer was the sturdiness of the burner stand. Besides having the ability to heat 12 quarts of oil, I also wanted a burner stand that would hold the weight of 20 quarts of beer for my homebrewing. I decided on the Bayou Classic.
This Bayou Classic kit came with everything and setup was simple. The burner stand exceeded my expectations for sturdiness and the height was such that when using the 10 quart stock pot, you could place the burner stand on a safe sturdy work surface to elevate it off the ground. I plan on also using this burner with my wok. The burner was able to bring the oil to temperature in approximately 15 minutes. The Fish and Chips turned out great.
Of course when using 350 degree boiling oil, you do not want your weekend fry festival to end with either a trip to your local burn unit or a reason to see if Allstate really has you in good hands. Common sense must prevail and last time I checked, Amazon does not sell that yet. Set your fry area up away from kids, pets and anything that you want to see another day. If you follow that simple advice, all should turn out okay.
Clean up can be best described as "sticky", but in order to get the life out of your aluminum parts, don't skimp. Now that I have tackled fish and chips, I will have to move on to the other "must have" fried foods these days: turkeys, chickens, and Twinkies. I can't wait.

Crock-Pot SCV553KM 5.5-Quart Oval Manual Slow Cooker With Dipper, White Review

Amazon sells this crock pot through Target/ITC. I bought it at a local Target store for the same price.
Didn't want to pay a lot for a crock pot because we'll use it infrequently. Wife says Rival is best. I went with the wife's recommendation.
When I got home, I was sad to see that Rival is part of "The Holmes Group." I've sworn off Holmes' products because of their ventilation fans whereby they charge you money to get a warranty replacement and it's rigged so the charge plus shipping is the same amount as a new fan. Essentially, this means, their warranty is not only worthless but it is a scam.
I don't know if warranty will be handled in a similarly dismal fashion should we have problems with this Rival crock pot. Nevertheless, wife wants a basic Rival crock pot so I'll give in and accept a "Holmes" product this one time for her sake.
We've used it only once so far. I will say the lid fits tightly and doesn't have a gasket because it doesn't seem to need one. I had a 4 pound roast + 1.5 quarts of liquids in the thing and over a 10 hour cook cycle, the liquid level only dropped about 1/8 of an inch. I think it's important that a crock pot hold moisture in. This one seems to do it well.
Cooking on low for 10 hours, the liquids just barely bubbled slightly as the food barely simmered--just as I expected. So, I'd have to say it seems to maintain temperature accurately.
This crock pot has just a good old reliable off/warm/low/high switch. I avoided Rival's digital models. Some Rival digital models don't allow much actual temperature control--like you can't manually switch from a cook temp to a keep warm temp. It's all forced upon you when you choose a cooking time. Rival has another digital model called the "countdown timer" and this seemed like a good thing until I asked about what happens during a power outage. Know what happens? It shuts down. So, with Rival's digital models, if your power blips off for a few seconds while you're gone for the day, you might come home to rotten uncooked food. Here at our house, we have such power blips about 10 to 15 times per year. I have a bread maker that I use frequently. It has no provision to cope with power outages. If the power blips off a few seconds, the cycle stops and the bread is ruined. There's no way to set it so that it restarts where it left off. It has to restart from the beginning. I have sworn I won't get another digital cooking appliance that is going to go dead due to a momentary power outage. So, this basic crock pot with its good old standard rotary off/warm/low/high switch is totally immune to power blips. It will just go back to work when the power comes back on.
I heard a "crack" sound after about 4 hours. I was afraid I suffered ceramic crock damage as many people seem to complain about. Most cracks seem to be in the Kitchen Aid and Hamilton Beach product reviews. Nevertheless, I thought I was a victim. It was a loud crack sound. Really was. But, I've examined the crockery insert (liner) and it seems to be unharmed. Don't know what the noise was. Maybe there's a practically invisible hariline crack that will become more readily apparent later on. I'll watch closely and post back if that's the case. Maybe the cracking sound only indicated the relief of some benign stressors inherent in the stamped metal housing?
Like I say, I'll post if there's a crock defect that shows up later on. The crockery liner is so heavy, it would cost a lot to ship it back to Rival if they demanded such in a warranty claim. It's so heavy, I'll bet it would cost at least 3/4 as much as an entirely new crock pot just to ship the broken liner to Rival. Reports are that Kitchen Aid covers the entire cost of replacements for defective crockery liners. I hope Rival will do the same and I hope they don't resort to flim-flam warranty scams like they do with their Holmes ventilation fans.
So, this model is a basic crock pot with a basic switch and I presume it utilizes the basic bi-metal thermostat design that is common in lots of appliances. Therefore, unless the Chinese factories really screwed things up, this Rival crock pot should last as long as those old Rival crock pots that seem to have favorably impressed my wife.
