I had the older version of this skillet. It was half the price but only came with one pan. I loved it. The nonstick coating was virtually indestructible. I used metal utensils in it all the time and never got so much as a scratch. Well, I became so confident in the strength of the coating that I used a steak knife to cut a steak in half while it was in the pan to see if it was done. It wasn't knife proof. I guess I could have just ordered a replacement pan from Zojirushi, but I decided to buy this EP-RAC50 instead. It's better than the old one was. It's a little bigger, a little nicer looking. But I really like having the two pans. I can brown meat for spaghetti in the grill pan, and then boil noodles in the other. I don't even use the stove top anymore. You don't have to worry about pans being centered on the burner or sitting flat. Plus you have much more precise control over the temperature. It heats very evenly and the thermostat seems to be very accurate. I also like the fact that the nonstick coating is NOT Teflon, which is carcinogenic. And it's much more durable than Teflon. I don't need to use oil or butter because nothing sticks. Not even eggs. It wipes clean with a dry paper towel! Another nice thing is that you can remove the pan from the base so there's less chance of burning your food when it's done cooking unlike with some cheaper skillets where the pan and heating element are one unit. If this skillet breaks, I'll buy another one. It's worth every penny.

A nice addition to any busy kitchen, this large multi-functional electric skillet features a round-shaped power base and a cooking plate and pan. Its titanium-ceramic nonstick-coated flat plate measures 12 by 12 by 1-1/2 inches and works great for grilling hamburgers, grilled-cheese sandwiches, or summer vegetables. Switch out the flat plate for the deep-dish inner pan when it's time to make soup, stew, or fondue. The deep pan measures 12 by 12 by 2-1/2 inches and can be used directly on the stovetop burner. In addition, the adjustable-height steaming plate can be used with the deep pan for steaming foods. Set the heat from 176 degrees F (keep warm) to 480 degrees F depending on the task at hand, and easily keep an eye on the cooking process thanks to the tempered glass lid. Other highlights include stay-cool side handles, a detachable 6-2/7-foot power cord, and an easy-to-clean design. Recipes come included for yose-nabe, shabu-shabu, corn risotto, steak, steamed seafood, steamed chop suey, steamed chicken, steamed vegetables, chawan-mushi, steamed soup with Chinese cabbage and scallops, maccha steamed cake, sweet rice cooked with mountain vegetables, and Chinese pork dumplings. Made in China, the 1350-watt electric skillet measures 15 by 17-1/2 by 8-1/8 with the pan and 15 by 17-1/2 by 6-15/16 with the flat plate and carries a one-year limited warranty.
