Kuhn Rikon 6-Piece Duromatic Duo Pressure Cooker Set Review

Kuhn Rikon 6-Piece Duromatic Duo Pressure Cooker Set

We tried so many pressure cookers over the years as Indian Cooking demands heavy use of pressure cooking for making lentil soups and curries. We even tried few models from India but none could last more than a few years. Either they have problems with safety valves, handles, or they would become loose too often that requires tightenening of handles. If they last well, they were too bulky and takes almost forever to open and close the lid. Most annoying of all, they all make crazy sound that scares both my kids.
Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers sure have expensive prices but once you see them and feel them, you will find every reason to agree that they are well worth the price. This particular 2 set model is so lovely that my wife decided to get rid of most of her cookware as they both compliment each other so well. They can be used for almost everything we cook for our daily needs. The lids are interchangeable. This makes it so convenient to pressure cook veggies and lentils and then continue to use it with glass lid to make the final curry without having to transfer the cooked veggies and lentils to another cookware to make the curry. You can cook meat much faster and tastier without having to marinate for long.
The small one is so convenient if you have small babies and would like to feed them fresh boiled veggies, rice, or lentils. It saves lot of cooking time and the cook book that comes with it is wonderful. It gives you so many nice and simple receipes for everyone.
Couple of our guests got so impressed with this that they bought it right away from Amazon.com without waiting to get an incredible deal for it in their Amazon.com GoldBox like I did.

Oyama CFS-B12U All Stainless Rice Cooker Review

Oyama CFS-B12U All Stainless Rice Cooker
Average Reviews:

I LOVE rice and just wanted a reliable, quality appliance to make it for me while I worked or did other things. So after sifting through hundreds of non-stick crappy cookers, leaking and exploding cookers, and the countless bad reviews, I finally came across the Oyama stainless rice cooker. I ended up purchasing it on Bonton.com because it was on sale for $49, but their customer service is absolutely wretched, and I would go back and spend the extra $20 here at Amazon for quicker shipping and better service (not mention, Amazon won't triple-bill you for one order and take over a week to put the money back in your account).
PROS:
* Easy to clean. Ridiculously easy to clean. I tend to get eczema on my hands when I wash them frequently, so I appreciate that I don't have to use a bunch of soap and scrub the pot to get it clean.
* Cooks white rice, brown rice, short grain, long grain, blah blah...I've used many types in the cooker and they never burn. I add about 1/2 cup more water than the instructions say because I like my rice more moist and sticky.
* Keeps the rice warm and moist for a long time after it's done cooking. I tested this for a 24 period and their little booklet was right...the rice was fine.
* I love the stainless steamer insert tray. When the rice is done, I put frozen organic veggies in the steamer tray, close the lid, and come back in 5-10 minutes and everything's ready to eat.
* No spills or leaks or crappy, cheap parts.
* Fits on the counter really well.
* I really love that everything is stainless inside, because I know nothing is going to leach into my food.
CONS:
* I can't think of any, actually. I'm really happy with this unit and I hope it lasts a long time!
I hope you find this review helpful.
Best,
Stephanie

Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Top Pressure Cooker 7.4-Quart Review

This pressure cooker is probably the best on the market and a perfect size for a family. But, watch what you are purchasing, there are 2 separate types of lids on the Duromatic pressure cooker. This is the superior lid as it is easier to see the pressure, and turn it down to appropriate settings-fast release, slow release, with minimal effort. The other Kuhn Rikon's are awesome too. As far as I can tell, they are the same, with the exception of the lid/release. If you have the extra money, this is worth it--especially if you are a beginner. I regret that I bought the duromatic set without realizing the difference in the lids. I guess on the bright side, it means that I have pressure cookers in different sizes now.
If you are nervous about pressure cooking, there are awesome books out there to help lead the way-including pressuring cooking for dummies. My favorite is Miss Vickies Book of Pressure Cooker recipes, also found on amazon. She also has a website that offers a lot of free information as well as free recipes (although some have a small charge).
So, cook your food faster, save energy, retain more nutrients, and serve delicious homemade meals that seem like you have spent all day in the kitchen.

Stainless Steel Rice Cooker Model ME81 (Formerly ME8) - by Miracle Exclusives Review

Stainless Steel Rice Cooker Model ME81 (Formerly ME8) - by Miracle Exclusives
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After an exhaustive search for a rice cooker without a non-stick coating I was pretty much left with the ME81 from Miracle. On this basis alone, I would have given it 5 stars. It's very basic; when you plug it in, it goes to a warming mode (the directions state brown rice should be warmed for 15 minutes prior to cooking). When ready to cook, you simply depress the cook button. It then heats the contents to boiling and when ready, automatically switches back to the warming mode. The rice can continue warming for a couple of hours. Whenever ready to stop, simply unplug the unit and fluff the rice.
I must admit I have no experience with rice-cookers so my experience with the Miracle could be affected by my own ineptitude. To date, as far as grains are concerned, I've only made brown rice. My first attempt was 2 cups (the little plastic cup size which comes with the machine is smaller than one cup) and it worked fairly well with only a little rim of sludge around the edge of the glass top that occurred when it was pushed up during the boiling phase. The rice also stuck slightly to the bottom of the pan and was more moist in some areas than others, but I might have put in too much water. The directions call for extra water when cooking brown rice so with experimentation, I hope to improve on this. Next, I tried making 3 cups of brown rice and had quite a bit of boil over, with sludge running down the face of the cooker. I wonder what kind of mess results if you try to make all 8 cups? Obviously, I need more experience.
That aside, I have to say my efforts resulted in the best rice I've ever tasted! I feel like I can now get into all those healthy grains like millet, quinoa - and of course, brown rice - and switch from wheat-based products. I also steamed some vegetables in the steaming basket. They cooked in less time than I anticipated and even though I overcooked them (they never changed their bright colors so I thought they weren't done), they tasted fantastic. I've always felt uneasy about cooking vegetables in the microwave and now I'm finally liberated! The taste improvement alone is worth the investment in this cooker!
When initially searching for a rice cooker, I was disappointed all the fancy, multi-function rice cookers didn't come with stainless steel pots. Fuzzy-logic sounds so cool. But, according to a NY Times article (Sept 30 '08, "The Steamy Way to Dinner") one button varieties actually may have more flexibility. "It's easy to override the machine's small brain. Press the "cook" button, melt butter in the bowl, and sweat a finely diced shallot in it until soft - then add rice, broth and saffron strands, and start the machine again to make a daffodil-yellow pilaf". (Although, I think the directions enclosed with the ME81 stated you shouldn't repress the cook button, probably for risk of burning the contents of the pot.) According to the NY Times, "The most intriguing recipes are those that have been developed, out of necessity or curiosity, entirely for the rice cooker, like the ones here" and then introduces food blogger Hui Leng Tay teczcape.blogspot There are also some recipe links. Just looking at the pictures makes me want to start experimenting.
Anyway, despite the slight messiness, I love this rice cooker, love the tastes it is producing, and look forward to many more healthful meals in the future.

Sunpentown SC-886 3-Cup Stainless-Steel Rice Cooker and Steamer Review

We enjoy white rice each and every day for as long as I can remember and we have waited a long time for an 3-4 cup rice cooker that utilized a non-coated stainless inner steam pot. For the past two years Sunpentown's competitor's 8 cup stainless cooker has been our mainstay and though it has been a nice unit it was always an effort to clean the stainless pot and learned that soaking it with soapy water for 30 minutes was very helpful, but still two of us didn't require such a large cooker. By chance I happened to hear of the Sunpentown 3 cup rice cooker at a reasonable price and maintained it included a stainless steel inner cooking pot. I ordered one from Amazon and was so dissapointed after reading the opinion/review that the inner pot was or could be coated with some type of non-stick coating so I e-mailed Sunpentown asking if this was or wasn't true. Within an hour I received a cordial letter informing me that all of the inner cooking components were indeed stainless steel and were never coated with any PTFE or other non-stick coating. After receiving the cooker we enjoyed 3 cups of great tasting rice and because the pot sits in 1 cup of water the extreme temperature to the bottom of the inner pot is minimized and the rice is cooked evenly. We still soak the cooking pot for a short time but it is not necessary and cleaning is very easy. Thank you Sunpentown for developing exactly the right rice cooker this family wanted.

Take the guesswork out of making restaurant-quality rice at home with this easy-to-use rice cooker and steamer. The handy appliance offers a 3-cup rice capacity--great for one or two people or when making a side dish. Simply add dry rice, measure in the water, and turn the unit on with a press of the lever. At the end of the cooking process, it will turn itself off automatically or, by turning the "warm" switch to "on", will automatically switch over to "keep-warm" mode to maintain an ideal serving temperature without over-cooking. The multi-function cooker can also be used to prepare dishes such as breakfast porridge, chicken soup, beef stew, steamed vegetables, and more. At least 1 cup of water needs to be added before starting the cooking cycle, more for longer cooking times. Other highlights include "cook" and "keep warm" indicator lights, stay-cool side handles for safe transport, a generous knob for removing the lid, and 100-percent stainless-steel components, including its exterior housing, interior cooking pot, and lid. A sleek-looking addition to any modern kitchen, the ETL-approved stainless-steel rice cooker measures 9-3/4 by 7-8/9 by 8-8/9 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Stainless Steel Rice Cooker Model ME81 (Formerly ME8) - by Miracle Exclusives Review

Stainless Steel Rice Cooker Model ME81 (Formerly ME8) - by Miracle Exclusives

We cook rice and grains frequently, as do many Asian-Americans. We have used plastic-bowl microwave vessels, aluminum & teflon pots, steam pressure cookers and several others over the past five plus decades. They all work, but each has a down side. For instance wait till your visitors or grand kids hear the hissing monster of a pressure cooker.

We feared aluminum toxicity, teflon ingestion, plastic leaching and plain uncertainty of what new epidemiologic research will unleash on us tomorrow. My wife and I have conveniently labeled our failing intellects as chronic "rice-in" toxicity. Forget age, it must be all that peeling cooking pot and rice!
The stainless steel Miracle is a reasonable answer, unless we find out in some distant future that stainless steel is also a hazard. Probably not. This cooker performs well and passes muster readily with us. We have not noted any spills or crusty rice paste sticking to the bottom. We do have the advantage of having cooked rice and grains for many years. But this is an easy skill to acquire if you learn to vary the amount of water used to suit the type of rice or grain. Don't lose heart too soon.
The pot washes easily if you soak it in water for a few hours -- and better still leave it overnight for your spouse to take care of tomorrow!
A vege tray comes with the cooker. It steams beans, peas and carrots well and to a ready-to-eat tender state.
I agree that a price of some $50.00 would have been better, but the convenience and safety are worth the added whimper while you pay the price. You could shop around and may be able to find a slightly lower price. And don't blow the savings on pricey coffee.
