Mirro Foley 3.5-Quart Stainless Steel Food Mill Review

I bought this food mill because it's the same design as the food mill my grandmother has had for decades. I've been using it the past few weeks to make tomato gazpacho. This food mill is more than up to the task.
The stainless steel surface is easy to keep clean, and it disassembles for even easier cleaning. As a nice touch, the diameter of the scraper wire on the bottom of the mill is just a fraction smaller than the grill holes, which means that if you have seeds lodged in any of the holes after cleaning, you can use the scraper wire to knock them out.
The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the double-loop handle can be uncomfortable to hold after a while. (I can understand why they used the double-loop design--because it stays cooler if you're milling over a heated pot--but I think I would've preferred having a more comfortable handle and using a potholder if necessary.)

Mirro 8qt. Pressure Cooker, Aluminum Review

Mirro 8qt. Pressure Cooker, Aluminum

I received this cooker for Christmas 2008 ( a Wal Mart purchase).
It was my first pressure cooker, and it cooked wonderfully (though it was a bit tight for two chickens); until it failed.
After about 6 uses, it would no longer establish pressure. The red pop up on the handle (indication that pressure was up and handle locked) started popping up to about twice the height it normally emerged from the handle (when the cooker worked) and steam vented from all around the handle junction with the lid.
I tried everything the book said to do. The handle was tight. I inspected, streched and oiled the gasket. No luck. I called Mirro (Wearever) and they told me to boil the gasket for 15 min. and then oil it. I did all these things, to no avail.
So I returned it. Now I'm going to try Presto.

Mirro 8-quart pressure cooker quickly and healthfully cooks foods with trapped steam at temperatures higher than boiling. It's the ideal size for families. Pressure cooking requires little water so nutrients, flavor, and color are not boiled away. Made of rust-proof, heavy-gauge aluminum, the cooker has a stay-cool, locking handle. Mirro pressure cookers are designed with safety in mind. This one features the "Triple Safe Design" with a safety release plug, sure-locking lid system, and side gasket pressure release.

Needed a new cord for my 50 year-old Mirro coffee urn. After looking in all the local shops I could think of and not finding the right item, I ordered this one. It took a while to arrive (ordered over the Christmas holidays) but was exactly what I needed and worked just fine. Just wish I hadn't wasted all that time looking locally beforehand!
