Backyard Classic 36 QT Turkey Deep Fryer Review

Backyard Classic 36 QT Turkey Deep Fryer
Average Reviews:

I bought this turkey fryer from sam's club for 67.00 on oct.7, 2010. I cooked my first turkey in it that same night and it was great. The pot was a sturdy aluminum, not like the flimsy pots of some other brands. I'm going to get a bunch of crawfish this weekend and use the basket to boil them.
I would definitely recommend it to others.

Presto 06000 6 Quart Kitchen Kettle Review

Presto 06000 6 Quart Kitchen Kettle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought one at Walmart last year. I use it pretty often, but mostly for making popcorn. Turn temp to 350, put a couple-three tablespoons of peanut oil in the bottom, and then when the oil heats up throw in 1/3 to 1/2 cup of popcorn. Put the cover on and keep the pot moving while the corn pops. When the corn has just about stopped popping, turn the heat off and pour the popcorn into a bowl. Butter, salt and eat. YUM!
I've deep-fried scallops in it, steamed vegetables, cooked rice, made soup and even baked potatoes. The thing works great! I wasn't going to write a review until I saw Alton Brown talk some trash about it on Good Eats. I got pretty defensive about my humble Presto cooker! He was doing a silly episode about "man food" like corn dogs and thin, square hamburgers. Well, when Mr. Brown was explaining how to fry the corn dogs he said (while holding a Presto mutlti-cooker) that a pot with an heating element on the outside of the bottom wasn't a good idea because first the element had to heat the pot and then it had to heat up the oil. Too slow. After that he displayed three home-use rectangular fryers with immersion type heating elements. He said they were also better because they each had cooking baskets and break-away magnetic cords. He picked the one with the digital controls, while implying that this was somehow better than the manual rotary temp control.
I don't know if A. B. gets paid for product placement on his show, but I really thought he was being disingenuous regarding the Presto "pot." First of all, about the heating element on the bottom of the Presto cooker: During the frying demonstration, Mr. Brown had some text placed over the screen that said that if you didn't have a special electric fryer, that a pot on the stove-top would work fine. Isn't that interesting? What the heck is a pot on the stove, but just a heating element on the outside of a pot that heats up the pot and then the oil inside? That's exactly what he was criticizing the Presto kettle about. What gives? Secondly, the Presto cooker DOES TOO have a magnetic break-away electric cord to keep the unit from tipping when the cord is yanked by accident. Also, the Presto cooker DOES TOO come with a frying-steaming basket, which Brown implied it didn't have. Nya, nya, nya! See, I can be just as immature as Alton Brown!
I don't know if the rectangular fryers are really better, but I'm sure they cost a lot more. My Presto cooker was $26.85 at Walmart. I keep it in a lower cabinet - it doesn't take up much space there. I pull it out when I need it. It's inexpensive, easy to use, and simple. When we go to Maine in August, I'm allowed to take only one of my counter-top appliances. So, I just take the Presto cooker with me. Normally, I cook steel cut oats in a small bowl, sitting in water, in a slow cooker (a bain marie - sort of - found the idea here [link deleted]) I can do the same thing with the Presto cooker. And I have a pot with me on vacation that I can do so much more with.
One last thing. With my slow cooker I use a plug-in timer called a Rival Smart-Part. But it's not rated to control the wattage of the Presto multi-cooker. I found a heavy-duty programmable digital timer that I use to turn the Presto cooker off and on automatically. This device really allows me to use the Presto cooker like a slow cooker, without over-cooking stews and such when I am out of the house all day. The Presto multi-cooker is a terrific appliance! Buy one now, and don't believe everything you see on TV!
Flash Update! Here is another reason to buy a Presto multi-cooker: I'm making a beef stew with red wine tonight. What a mess browning the stew beef! I have a 3 quart Wagner cast-iron chicken fryer, and this is what I used to brown the beef chuck cubes. These days the meat hasn't been aged much, and so it is very difficult to brown properly. I managed to do it in batches, but the stove-top got pretty messy by the time I was done. I put the browned meat, vegetables, and garlic into the Presto cooker ( I made sure to deglaze the chicken fryer with wine and include all the tasty bits) and continued to cook the stew. And then I could proceed to clean up the stove-top while the beef stew simmered away in a different part of the kitchen. I am very pleased not to have to clean up all that oil spatter after dinner!

Masterbuilt 20010109 Butterball Professional Series Indoor Electric Turkey Fryer Review

Masterbuilt 20010109 Butterball Professional Series Indoor Electric Turkey Fryer
Average Reviews:

Successor to company's earlier kettle-style units.
Worked very well first time out of the gate.
Cooked a 13.7lb turkey in the minium time.
Seems well built and thought out.
I prefer an electric fryer to a gas one for reasons of safety and that it can be used inside.
I owned an earlier Masterbuilt that worked well but failed after only a few Thanksgivings.
The main reason I gave this one a 4 instead of 5 star is that, to me, the jury's out on the reliability.
Still, the first one worked well enough to give them a second chance.
Right now, this one's working great.

Its user-friendly control panel consists of a digital timer, a red "power" light, a green "ready" light, and a simple control knob for adjusting the thermostat up to 375 degrees F. Other highlights include a fold-away lid with a viewing window, a built-in filter to reduce cooking odors, a porcelain-coated inner pot with a built-in drain valve for easy cleaning, a hideaway cord storage compartment, and a space-saving design that takes up minimal space on the counter. King Kooker 30-qt. Pot with Spigot and Turkey Rack Review

King Kooker 30-qt. Pot with Spigot and Turkey Rack
Average Reviews:

So it's a 30 qt pot. Not much to it. Should be fine right?
I use it about twice a month to heat 4 gallons of water to 170 degrees F. It has a Turkey Rack so clearly it was ment to fry turkeys in extremly hot oil.
Back to the point I was heating water the freak'n spigot broke off! Yeah! This is probably the 35th time I've used it. As pointed out above I have only heated water in it and not even to boiling.
Spilling several gallons of 170 degree water was a mess, but can you imagine if I had been using it to fry turkeys! This could have been deadly.
Definitly DO NOT get this pot.

I have just ordered another Fry-Daddy. This will be the third one that I have had over the years. It is lighweight and is just a pot that holds oil as someone said. It is so convenient and not heavy, it makes it easy to store if you do not have countertop room. There are all kinds of deep fryers, but none that does a better job than this one. I would recommend it to anyone.

Char-Broil The Big Easy Oil-Less Infrared Turkey Fryer Review

Char-Broil The Big Easy Oil-Less Infrared Turkey Fryer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have never owned or used a turkey frier. I am very safety minded and the thought of all that peanut oil at a high temperature and the open flame, well I just cant bring myself to buy one. I did, however purchase the Char-Broil Big Easy Oil-Less Infrared Turkey Fryer. So far in three weeks I have cooked three turkeys. Since I have never used a real deep fat turkey frier, the operational part of my review of the product is a bit one-sided. I can say that of all the appliances that have more than 2 moving parts, the ease of operation of the Big Easy is just that. Big and easy. The three turkeys I have cooked in the cooker were just under 12 pounds. The first was rubbed with olive oil, it was delicous and moist but a bit dark on the outside. The subsequent 2 were rubbed with peanut oil and had a better complection, but were just as moist and flavourful. I did experience a bit of overcooking of the drumsticks and wings. I believe that this could be cured by sheilding them with some aluminium foil (that will be my next experiment). I have yet to cook anything but turkeys, when I do though, I will make an addendum to this review. All in all, I am pleased with the product and highly praise its ease of use and safety in producing a nice fried turkey. My son is a proffesional Chef and agrees that my terminology is correct, oil has been used and as he states, "technically Dad, it is fried, but not deep fat fried" Thats ok by me.

The Char-Broil Big Easy oil-less infared turkey fryer represents the next step forward in utilizing infared style cooking. This patented technology takes the mess and hassle out of cooking a perfect turkey (up to 16 lbs.) or other large cut of meat (chickens, pork tenderloings, or beef roasts). With no hot cooking oil to purchase, splatter, or dispose of, the Char-Broil Big Easy is the delcious, safe and easy alternative to oil-fried turkey. Cooking is done inside a double-wall cylindrical cooking chamber, powered by a fullly enclosed propane burner. Char Broil's patented Heat Wave infard technology delivers juicy, crisp, flavorful results every time. Your favorite marinades can be injected and even dry rubs and sauces can be used for added flavor.

Safe

Thanksgiving just got a whole lot easier and healthier for those who love the juicy taste of fried turkey but hate the safety, cost and hassle issues related to cooking with oil. Because it’s oil-less, The Big Easy eliminates the dangers long associated with the incorrect and unsupervised use of deep fryers. Cooking occurs inside The Big Easy’s cylindrical, double-walled heating chamber, powered by a fully enclosed propane burner. The turkey or other meat is placed inside a drop-in basket that is lowered into the chamber and cooked with evenly distributed Infrared radiant heat.

We love the juicy and distinctive taste of fried turkey, but many of us have become increasingly wary of the fire dangers associated with deep fryers - and for good reason. In fact, firefighters and consumer product safety experts warn that unattended or improperly used turkey fryers can cause devastating house or deck fires. Cooking oil is combustible; therefore, if it is heated beyond its cooking temperature, then its vapors can ignite. In fact, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission noted "the majority of reported incidents occurred while the oil was being heated, prior to adding the turkey."The Big Easy offers the perfect safe and healthy solution-great fried turkey taste without the oil.

Easy

Those who have fried a turkey using a traditional deep-fryer can testify that it is a labor-intensive process. Finding a safe location, buying oil, pre-heating the oil, cleaning up the mess and properly disposing of the used oil is inconvenient and time consuming.

Beyond being a "labor of love" for your family and friends, cooking with a traditional turkey fryer is also expensive proposition. That juicy, mouthwatering, crispy skinned result can put a significant dent in your wallet especially when it comes to buying the oil. Frying with peanut oil usually costs between $35-$40 per use. In addition to the cost, there is the problem of what to do with 3 to 4 gallons of peanut oil when the feast is over. Then the fun begins. Simply getting 3.5 to 4 gallons of used oil from a 26 to 30 quart pot back into a container or several containers is not a simple task. Then figuring out how and where to properly recycle the oil in your community is often a challenge.

The Char-Broil Big Easy eliminates all oil-related issues by simply eliminating the oil, allowing the backyard chef to spend less money and more time savoring the best turkey they have ever tasted. No more oil to buy and pre-heat. No more trying to figure out a safe, easy and environmentally friendly way to dispose of 3 to 4 gallons of used oil. Enjoy the convenience and savor the taste!

Cajun Injector Electric Turkey Fryer Review

Cajun Injector Electric Turkey Fryer
Average Reviews:

I almost didn't buy this unit because of the one star reviewer, but I knew I could return it if needed. To my delight the fryer worked perfectly - of course if you read the directions for operating the controls, that always helps.
Pros:
1. BIG!! Fries up toa 16 lb Turkey in the 30 quart barrel and uses almost 4 gal of oil (oil is reuseable up to 5-6 times). Think of it as an investment.
2. The black casing around it is cast iron. I thought it was plastic in the picture.
3. Drain spout to save the oil when finish.
4. Nice glass lid; Nice appearance
Cons:
1. Takes about 55 minutes to heat the oil from room temp to 400 degrees. This is normal for such a large unit.
2. Prices vary. I got mine from WalMart online so check around
3. The control panel isn't intuitive, so read the instructions. Press "on"; then "Temp Heat"; then press the up arrow until it reaches 400 degrees (for frying a turkey). You may have to push a button more than once because I think the first push is to light up the screen.

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This fryer is junk, to begin with it was short parts and the pans were bent because of shabby packageing and cheap box. When cooking with it you have to keep adjusting the heat as it won't hold an even tempature, one pan will get hot and the other too cold, you adjust it and it goes the other way, one reason for this is the paper thin pans that won't hold any heat. The directions for assembly are very scant. Again this fryer is junk, I will not recommend to anyone.

Ideal for picnics, potlucks, neighborhood block parties, and other outdoor events, this 30-inch propane cart features two 54,000-BTU cast burners and recessed framing that firmly supports the two included rectangular-shaped aluminum fry pans. The cooker provides one frying basket that fits neatly inside one of the fry pans, plus two smaller frying baskets that fit side by side in the other fry pan for cooking up French fries, chicken wings, onion rings, and more. Heat-resistant loop side handles on the pans ensure safe transport, while long, heat-resistant handles on the frying baskets make it easy to safely lower or raise food from hot oil, keeping hands and arms a safe distance from splatters and potential burns. The CSA-certified unit attaches to its fuel source with LP hoses and a regulator outfitted with a type-1 connection (propane tank sold separately). Even more, each burner supplies a brass needle valve for individual flame control, which makes it easy to gently fry fragile doughnuts or dumplings on one side while preparing crunchy drumsticks or deep-fried corn dogs on the other. Additional highlights include two deep-fry thermometers for checking oil temperatures at a glance, durable construction, and two smooth-rolling wheels for simple transport. The UL-listed outdoor propane cart measures approximately 19-3/5 by 24 by 32-2/7 inches.

This pot is lightweight stainless steel. The bottom scorched through, (blackened) on it's first use. I used it on my stove's 16,000 BTU burner, but that has not been a problem for my other cookware. The fried chicken it produced was good, but I'm sure this pot can't stand up to heavy use. Buy it only for occasional use. If you plan to fry alot, buy a basket for your dutch oven or buy a commercial aluminum fry bottom/basket.

King Kooker 60-Quart Aluminum Boiling Pot Review

King Kooker 60-Quart Aluminum Boiling Pot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A 60-quart pot is the perfect size for steaming a full, packed bushel of blue crabs on an outdoor propane burner. The KK-60 is a heavy-duty aluminum version that is well-made, has a nice-fitting lid, and heavy-duty riveted handles. The included boiling basket is also ideal for large seafood boils and frying very large turkeys. At last inquiry, King Kooker does not make a steamer plate for this pot, so for steaming crabs, you'll need to raise the included basket a few inches with either stainless steel carriage bolts or some other kind of spacer (there's plenty of room under the lid).
Aluminum pots used for steaming crabs will pit eventually due to the salt, so to prolong its life, you'll want to wash it immediately after each use. In the long run, a stainless version like the Bayou Classic 1060, 60-Qt. Stainless Fryer/Steamer with Vented Lid is the way to go, and I've seen the Bayou Classic sold with and without a basket. This King Kooker does do a fine job at a reasonable price; and it's of course lighter in weight.
I have seen two versions of the KK-60 sold locally that were both 60 quarts but were slightly different dimensions. The photo shown above is actually a much smaller (15qt?) pot.

BUYERS BEWARE! Make sure it matches the product description!
I ordered this model number (#9195) on February 9th 2010 from Amazon, it was just delivered today (February 16, 2010). The one I received does NOT match the "Product Features" description. According to Amazon.com's product listing the model #9195 is supposed to have the 20 PSI regulator and a 48" hose. However! The box I received says it's the #9195 model number BUT the features listed on the box don't match this product listing here! The #9195 I received says it includes a 10 PSI regulator and 36" hose. I just added an image to the customer images on this product for you all to see.
There is a difference though it may seem small! A 20 PSI regulator gives more control over the flame on the burner, and obviously a 48" hose is well... longer than a 36" hose! I'm impatiently waiting for Amazon to correct this. I'm crossing my fingers they send the one that actually matches the "product features" listed here. I will update you all with the results when I get them.**UPDATE February 19, 2010**
Amazon has once again, screwed up my order on this product. I ordered this way in advance so that I could have it by today. They attempted to exchange it for the correct one... and lone behold, the one they rushed to correct the mix-up was not only sent directly from Amazon's Returns Center instead of Bayou directly like it was the first time... but it was also a cheaper model!! A model that was nearly half the price I paid at the time for the model #9195 (which was a hundred seventy six dollars!). So since no retailers near me sell these in stock (which is why I purchased it here in the first place). I got stuck having to use the one they sent me as a "correction" which was an older and much cheaper model, which it too was a 10PSI regulator and 36" hose ... because there was no way they'd be able to correct it in time for today AGAIN. They issued me a refund of the difference in cost for the one I ended up needing to keep. I also, have since looked up the model #9195 from Bayou's company catalog online and sure enough Amazon has the wrong product description for this model number!! So BUYER BEWARE EVERYONE! In all my years doing business with Amazon.com this is the first time I've had them screw up this royally. However, they will still have my business because the customer service to resolve this issue was great--even though, I had to Google to get their direct customer service number (1-800-201-7575)!**UPDATE March 3, 2010**
I can't help but laugh now. Amazon temporarily made this item unavailable for ordering while waiting to process my return but since my return was received they have now made the item available again through them.... and Amazon has still NOT updated the product description on this item! So everyone PLEASE BE AWARE this fryer set does NOT include a 20 PSI regulator or 48 inch hose! To everyone that orders it, and it doesn't match the product description--I encourage you to call and complain! Get a discount for false advertisement! Perhaps if they get enough complaints they'll get smart and finally correct their incorrect product description!**UPDATE December 18, 2010**
Looks like enough of you took my advice and complained to Amazon for the incorrect product description! Because the product description now FINALLY reflects the correct description! So thank you all for reading my review and for taking my advice! Aside from the ordering problems I had, Bayou turkey frying kits are great for home-brewing beer. If you're getting a Bayou kit for home brewing I highly recommend getting a Stainless Steel kit, as using an Aluminum pot will mess with the flavor and quality of your brew.

Great burner no more deep knee bends for me !!!!Love the cast iron pot. The only thing is you must season it. So just remember you need to do this before you use it.
